Hands-on Exploration Towards Concrete Understanding

West Chester Friends School nurtures curiosity and a love of discovery through a comprehensive science program for students in Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade.Our youngest learners begin exploring the natural world through hands-on investigation and observation. Whether in the science lab, the outdoor classroom, around our research pond, or beneath the shade of our tree-lined campus, students are encouraged to ask questions, make discoveries, and develop an appreciation for the world around them.

As students grow, they engage in a rich science curriculum that explores biology, chemistry, physics, earth, and ecological sciences through meaningful, inquiry-based experiences. Highlights of the program include pond studies, engineering design challenges, geology, microscope investigations, and problem-solving using the scientific method. Field experiences at West Chester University's Mather Planetarium and Geology Museum extend classroom learning and inspire deeper exploration.

Each spring, our annual Science Expo celebrates the work of our third, fourth, and fifth grade students as they share experiments, research, inventions, and innovative solutions with the school community.

Throughout every grade level, students are encouraged to think critically about real-world challenges, recognize the interconnectedness of people and the environment, and consider how their choices impact the planet.
