Welcoming Your Child

During your first visit to WCFS, parents meet Brian Fahey, Head of School, and teachers share information about grade-level programming and special areas of study. Current families are happy to chat with prospective families. Barbara Rowe, Director of Admissions, helps you learn what to expect for your child’s West Chester Friends School admission experience.

When a completed application is received, your child is welcomed to campus for a classroom visit and simple assessment. Timing is important. Submitting all paperwork by early December gives time for assessments and visits, which may take up to three weeks to complete. Applications are accepted all year. Space limitations may mean children accepted are assigned Wait List status. Contracts offered must be returned in a timely manner, along with the required deposit, to secure the space.

Your Child’s Visit Day

The Friends Play School
For ‘threes’ who are able to enjoy a group of friends, and are ‘diaper-free’. Simply choose the schedule you want on the FPS Application Form, and you’re all set! Your child is welcome to join you on your tour and enjoy a simple playtime at the Friends Play School. Just before school begins, your child’s teacher arranges a more formal introductory visit to the classroom with classmates. 

Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten
Children come to campus for about two hours for a fun classroom visit and a simple ‘get-to-know-you’ assessment with Barbara Rowe, Director of Admissions. 

First Grade Children visit for a morning in the classroom and are assessed. 

Second through Fifth Grade
The student visits for one to two full days in their current grade, and is assessed in reading, writing, and mathematics.
 

Required Applicant Forms

  1. Report Card –  most recent and, if applicable.
     
  2. ADVIS Teacher Recommendation – Your child’s teacher sends directly to WCFS. NOTE: Choose grade-specific form

    ADVIS Recommendation Pre-K,  K, & 1st Grade

    ADVIS Recommendation 2nd–5th Grades 
     
  3. Psycho-educational or other evaluations must be submitted, if applicable.
