West Chester Friends School

Quaker Hill

West Chester Friends School is located on "Quaker Hill", near the highest point in the Borough of West Chester.  The "Quaker Block," as it is also known, consists of West Chester Friends School, West Chester Monthly Meeting of Friends, and The Hickman Home.

The West Chester Monthly Meeting of Friends established the School in 1836.  The School is now separately incorporated, but continues to be in a mutually beneficial care relationship with the Meeting.  Many meeting families have attended the School and served on its Board of Directors throughout its long history.  Some families who have been introduced to Quakerism through the School have since become attenders and members of the Meeting.

The Hickman is an independent and assisted living residence for older adults, founded by two Quaker women in 1891.  Every grade level interacts with residents of The Hickman with increasing frequency from year to year, with the fifth grade enjoying weekly service opportunities.  Hickman residents also volunteer in the School.
